Pilot Discretion: His first crop produced winners in 2023!
"He was one of the most honest, great-gaited trotters that I've had in recent years. He had a great work ethic, and he always woke up willing to work every day." - Trainer Tony Alagna
Pilot Discretion stands his fourth season at Premier Acres for the 2023 breeding season. A son of the great Muscle Hill, out of the Self Possessed mare Self Indulgent, he offers a Grand Circuit pedigree, and was received well by breeders during his first season. Pilot Discretion covered a book of 76 mares, including multiple dams of top Indiana Sires Stakes talent and several young, well-bred broodmares.
After winning both freshman starts at Lexington, Pilot Discretion returned at three to capture the $185,250 Goodtimes final in 1:52.4 while defeating eventual Hambletonian champion Forbidden Trade. He cut the mile in the Stanley Dancer Memorial before finishing second to Greenshoe, trotting a lifetime best 1:51.
Twice he was runner-up to Green Manalishi S in the $453,750 Canadian Trotting Classic and Bluegrass Stake, and he hit the board in the $220,000 Carl Erskine at Harrah's Hoosier Park and $208,300 Matron final, where he trotted in 1:52 over Dover's five-eighths oval. In the Hambletonian final, Pilot Discretion raced on or near the lead until the stretch, trotting the mile in 1:52.3.

Production: Pilot Discretion's first crop had an impact on the Indiana racing scene in 2023. Despite only 16 starters, the son of Muscle Hill produced 11 winners, a nearly 69 percent winning rate. Nine freshmen took marks of 2:00 or better led by multiple Indiana Sires Stakes winner and Grand Circuit victor Flirtnwiththepilot 2, 1:56.1s ($104,920) and Indiana Sires Stakes leg winner Flight Number One 2, Q1:56.4s ($85,415). With only eight yearlings sold at the Hoosier Classic last fall, the babies averaged $16,875, nearly five times his stud fee.
